Listen To: Demi Lovato – Confident

Demi Lovato is not an artist that I would have talked about, had I not written this new “Listen To Music” series a year ago. Mostly because I was into bands like Bring Me The Horizon and We Came As Romans. So what changed in my life in order to discuss Demi? Saturday Night Live. Yes, that live sketch comedy show.

SNL Eye Opener

I listen to a lot of Howard Stern on SiriusXM radio. Howard is fascinated with the SNL show and has some of the biggest names, from SNL, on his show. I was listening to the Fred Armisen and Bill Hader interviews. They are super funny and very informative on how that show operates. The Premiere of SNL Season 41 came out on October 3rd, 2015. Miley Cyrus was the musical guest. I watched and laughed hysterically. Some commercials came on and mentioned the hosts and musical guest for the next few weeks. The following week Amy Schumer and The Weekend were going to be featured. I watched that show and laughed as well. Again, commercials for next week’s shows came on. That’s when I discovered Demi Lovato. She performed a hybrid mashup of her songs “Cool For The Weekend” & “Confident”. She is extremely talented and gorgeous. However, that’s not always been the case. Demi describes in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, linked below, that she was always asked to put on an act of sorts. She wasn’t being true to herself. She wrote this new record and decided that she was taking her life back. Before I started Google searching, I would have thought that Demi was always as wild as she appeared. If you saw her on Glee, you would have thought the same thing.

WordCamp Sacremento

I drove to WordCamp Sacremento in November 2015. From Las Vegas, eNVy to Reno, eNVy. I spent the weekend in Reno and hoped over the hill to Sacremento, CA. I spent the entire trip, from Reno to Sacremento, listening to Demi’s record named Confident. It’s very upbeat and it caught me off guard. Before listening to this record, I had only heard Demi sing her version of the Frozen song. I thought that was her style of music. Boy, was I wrong. Not to mention that her music will blow out the windows in your car or truck. I have a pretty good sound system in my car. I had the volume up to 20, as high as it will go, and my only regret was that it didn’t go up to 25 or 30.

Demi, if you read this: I’m a fan. I love your music and that’s why I’m adding you to this series.

Demi & Ryan Seacrest Interview

She’s tired of pleasing people and being a role model. None of those things represent who she is as a person. This album changes the rules. No more sob stories.
