WordPress Training · Online & Indianapolis, IN

Learn WordPress like a
professional uses it.

No code required. No jargon. Just the real skills that let you own your site, stop paying retainers, and actually understand what’s happening under the hood.

The Philosophy

A consultant who actually
wants you to understand.

A lot of people in this space will fix your site and move on. That’s not how I operate. My instinct, every single time, is to stop and explain what’s happening. Not because you asked. Because I think you deserve to know.

Before I was a consultant, before I was a developer, I was the person in the room raising my hand at WordPress meetups asking “but why does it work that way?” That curiosity never left. It just turned into a way of working with people.

Whether you book a training session or hire me to fix something, you’re getting the same Russell: someone who will jump on a call, share a screen, walk through it with you, and make sure you actually get it before we hang up. That’s not a bonus feature. That’s just how I work.

📞
I’ll jump on a call with you
Got a question? Confused about something I said? Text, email, or hop on a screen share. I’m reachable and I don’t make you feel bad for asking.
🧠
I explain before I execute
Before I fix anything, I tell you what I think is wrong and why. You shouldn’t need a translator for your own website.
🔁
I’ll say it as many times as it takes
WordPress isn’t intuitive. I’ve explained staging environments a hundred different ways. I’ll find the one that clicks for you specifically.
🚪
My goal is to work myself out of a job
The best outcome is you not needing me. Every session is designed to make the next one optional. I’ll tell you when you’re ready to fly solo.

The Curriculum

Core WordPress skills — the ones that matter

These are the fundamentals I’ve used across casinos, mortgage companies, agencies and solo sites. No filler, no fluff.

Module 01

Backups & Disaster Recovery

Multiple backups are the most important WP skill. We cover UpdraftPlus, ManageWP, and what to do when things go wrong.

Module 02

Plugins — Install, Manage, Survive

How to evaluate, install, activate and safely update plugins without tanking your site. Includes conflict detection.

Module 03

Themes & Page Builders

Understanding how your theme and builder (Elementor, Divi, Kadence, etc.) work together, and which one to choose.

Module 04

Site Migrations

Move a site from one host to another, or from local to production, using Duplicator, All-in-One WP Migration or manual methods.

Module 05

Staging Environments

Test before you break things live. Setting up staging via your host, WP Staging plugin, or a local tool like Local by Flywheel.

Module 06

DNS, Hosting & Going Live

Domain records, nameservers, SSL setup and the pre-launch checklist I use on every single site I manage.

Module 07

Documentation & Client Handoffs

Writing clear notes and walkthroughs so clients understand their site. The skill that separates support pros from everyone else.

Module 08

Performance & Core Web Vitals

Caching, image optimization, CDN basics, and how to read a PageSpeed Insights report without your eyes glazing over.

Module 09

Responsive Design & Accessibility

Making sure your site works on every screen size and meets basic accessibility standards, without hiring a developer.

How It Works

From first session to fully independent

1

We Talk First

Tell me your situation: your site, your goals, your frustrations. I’ll map out what we should cover together.

2

1-on-1 Sessions

Live screen share. Your site, your dashboard, your real questions. Not slides. Not recorded videos. Actual learning.

3

You Practice

I give you specific things to try between sessions. Mistakes are expected. That’s where real understanding happens.

4

You’re Independent

The goal is for you to not need me anymore. I’ll tell you when we’re there. And I mean it.

Where This Comes From

Forged in Vegas.
Teaching from Indianapolis.

Everything I know about WordPress I tested in the fire. Not in a classroom. At Vegas meetups at 10pm, in WordCamp speaker rooms, managing casino websites with thousands of daily visitors, and doing updates on 550+ client sites every Tuesday and Wednesday at WebDevStudios.

The Las Vegas WordPress Meetup Group and WordCamp Las Vegas built me. That community gave me a real career. I carry it everywhere. Now based in Indianapolis, IN, available for in-person sessions and online anywhere in the US.

🎰
WordCamp Las Vegas & Speaker Circuit
Presented at WordCamps in Las Vegas, San Diego, Ann Arbor and more. Thousands of attendees over a decade.
🤝
Las Vegas WordPress Meetup — Lead Organizer
Ran the group that sparked hundreds of WP careers in Southern Nevada. Still connected to that community.
📡
WPWatercooler Podcast Network
Regular contributor since Episode 81. WPWatercooler, WPBlab & Dev Branch. Previously live on YouTube every Friday.

Now Based in Indianapolis, IN
Available for in-person sessions in Indy and online sessions with anyone, anywhere in the US.
Common Questions

Before you reach out

Do I need to know how to code?
Absolutely not. Most of what I teach doesn’t involve a single line of code. WordPress is designed so that you shouldn’t have to write code to manage your site. I’ll show you exactly how.
How long until I’m actually independent?
Depends on your starting point. Most people feel confident in 3–5 sessions. Power User skills typically take 6–10 focused sessions to really sink in. I’ll be straight with you about where you are.
What if I just have one specific problem to fix?
That’s fine. I do single-session troubleshooting too. We get in, fix the problem, I walk you through what I did, and you leave knowing more than when we started.
Do you offer ongoing support after training?
Yes, but the goal is for you not to need it. If something comes up I’m always reachable. But I’m not in the business of creating dependency. I want you self-sufficient.
Can I learn to do WP support professionally?
Yes, and there’s real demand for it. Companies like WebDevStudios, NerdPress, Maintainn and others are always looking. I’ll show you exactly what professional support work looks like from the inside.
What’s your pricing like?
I keep it affordable on purpose. I’m not competing with agency rates. I know what budgets look like and I’d rather work with more people than price myself out of reach. Reach out and we’ll figure something out.

AI is coming to WordPress.
I’m already in it.

AI is changing how WordPress sites get built, maintained, and scaled. Not in a theoretical “someday” way. Right now. The tools are here, the workflows are forming, and the people who figure this out early are going to have a serious edge.

I’m not going to stand up and call myself an AI guru. That’s not what this is. What I can tell you is that I’ve been using AI tools heavily in my own WordPress work: building products, writing code, debugging faster, and doing things in hours that used to take days.

It’s going to become part of how I teach WordPress too. Not replacing the fundamentals. You still need to understand backups, plugins, and DNS. But knowing how to put AI to work on top of a solid WP foundation? That’s the next level.

Honest take: I’m a power user, not a preacher. I’m learning this in real time on real projects, and I’ll share what actually works. Not hype, not theory. Follow the blog and you’ll see it as it happens.
🤖
AI-Assisted WordPress Development
Using tools like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor to build custom WordPress functionality: plugins, theme mods, complex Gravity Forms logic. Without getting stuck in code for hours.
Faster Troubleshooting with AI
Pasting PHP errors, plugin conflicts, and weird WP behavior into AI tools and getting real, useful answers. A skill I use every single week. And something I can teach you to do too.
📦
Building WP Products with AI
Going from idea to working WordPress product significantly faster by using AI as a build partner. I’m doing this right now on my own projects and sharing what I learn along the way.
🎓
Coming: AI + WordPress Training
Once I’ve stress-tested enough of this in the real world, I’ll be adding AI-focused modules to my training sessions. You’ll be the first to know if you’re already working with me.
✍️
Follow the journey
I’ll be writing about AI + WordPress on the blog as I go
